Abandoned in a box...
Suki and her kittens were unwanted
On July 14th, we got a call that a momma and her babies had been left on someone's porch in a taped box. Thank goodness a good Samaritan took them in and contacted us right away. It's clear that mom and her babies were intentionally abandoned and for a few hours in their lives, they were unwanted.
We made arrangements to get mom and her babies as they were about 45 minutes out of town and she was brought into our care the following day.
On July 16th, all 3 kittens and mom had their health check-ups and it was discovered that mom had developed a skin condition that makes her very ichy to the point where she will scratch so hard, she'll leave open wounds on her neck and head. On top of that, she has hair loss around her neck where she once wore a collar that was obviously too tight. She will require medication 2x a day for her rash and is on pain medication and is being monitored for potential mastitis.
Her 2 kittens were given a clean bill of health and were dewormed and vaccinated, but kitten number 3 was too small to treat. He has been separated and is on strict bed-rest and under constant monitoring until he can gain some weight and strength. He is the definition of "runt" and is a little fighter.
While stories like these are not uncommon, it breaks our hearts that this little family has already been through so much. What gives us hope and brings joy is that they will never know a home without love again!
